About TEAM

Developed by Dr. David Burns at Stanford University

TEAM-CBT is a highly effective, state-of-the art psychotherapy that draws from the techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT practitioners believe that our thoughts affect how we feel, so if we can change how we think, then we can also change how we feel.

TEAM is the acronym that stands for the the therapeutic process, both during session and throughout treatment:

Testing: Checking in on how you’re feeling today, before and after we meet, and how you felt in the working with me. Did we cover everything you wanted to talk about today? What did you enjoy about today’s session?

Empathy: Basically, the expectation of any therapy: warm and effective communication from the therapist.

Assessment of Resistance: What are some good reasons why you may not want to work on this problem? What does your depression and anxiety say about you that’s actually really positive and beautiful? What needs to be done to overcome how overwhelming your feelings are?

Methods: A variety of tools, such as cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal techniques, to work towards your goals.

TEAM-CBT is used to treat anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. It can even be used to treat habits and addictions. It incorporates weekly homework and other exercises to lessen negative thinking and may lead to faster recovery!
